What is Two-Factor Authentication? How does it affect my Data Security?
Two factor authentication is a second layer of protection for your email. Microsoft, Google, and every other major email provider includes free 2FA options for your account. Two Factor Authentication is a critical component for modern day firms. At coast techs, we require any of our clients who use cloud based data sharing platforms to have 2FA enabled. This is a standard for MSP best practices to secure our clients.
How does Two-Factor Authentication work? Will it make my IT Operations more difficult?
Activating Two Factor is quite straightforward. For your admin portal, we set up certain verification options, then enable it for your staff. Once active, your staff will login to their email on a web browser, and be prompted to download an authenticator app. You will be guided through getting their own activation code. From there, any desktop or phone mail apps you have will prompt them for this code one time only. After that you will never be prompted to put in a code for your desktop or phone app again. Only accessing your mail and cloud data on a web browser requires the 2FA code.

Why is Two-Factor Authentication so important?
Think of it this way. If a nefarious actor gets a hold of your password, they can access your data and email from anywhere in the world on a web browser. With 2FA enabled, they would be required to have the code sent to your authenticator app as well.
